Monday, August 18th, 2008

We have already begun to discuss our approach to the design with other institutions and stakeholders.

The core team put together a poster for the Coventry University internal ELATE conference on 9th June:

The Kick off meeting

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

We had a long agenda and a series of useful discussions to try and align different “craft languages” of the different stakeholder groups.

We have resolved to:

Get comments to me asap on the work break down schedule and the plan:

Break down “spine” or “core” module components into two mind maps - one will be for the existing course; one will be for a generic set of ideas. We will use Inspiration for this as its an on campus product. Each map will include aims and objectives and ILOs for each “vertebra” ;

Think a bit more about the front end component for Chinese students….we could develop this for a number of other important groups of learning stakeholders…..although it might be optimal to have a group of Chinese students taking our new module, does this have to be the case…can we separate the two things?

We also need to clarify some issues with JISC:

1. Around scholarly material presently accessed via Athens passwords …do we need to get this cleared piece by piece, as we can’t assume that all users of JORUM have access to the same data subscription services ?

2. Around maintenance obligations for the outputs from the project?

Finally we have ideas around sign off and project assessment that we need to progress.

Outline Project Description

This blended learning project explores and develops four themes:
1. It is possible to develop a generic post graduate 10 CATS points Research Methods module incorporating examples of research methods best practice from other disciplines for reuse;
2. This module can be customised a the point of delivery to include appropriate disciplinary content, so features a “Common Spine” module with a subject “wrapper”
3. This module addresses the specific needs of International students with prior diverse learning cultures and English as a Foreign Language (EFL), addressing institutional pressures;
4. It supports the teaching of large cohort groups of diverse learners.
