Smart Phone
Not wanting to sound like a sales person but your Smart phone is an office in your pocket. With it connecting up to the University’s Active Directory it will keep you calendar, contact and emails up to date. It is also connected up to the University’s internal telephone network so internal extension numbers work, it should also be able to search Active Directory so you can easily look up someones number and then dial it. You can receive and send email and even access the Internet with it. Strong contender for the top spot. Even b4 u consider txt.
Downside, as with any phone there is no face to face contact and the battery goes flat just as you are about to say someth

Can I have a spare battery for mine? I don’t have a cigarette lighter in my car and I am hoping to switch to train travel asap.
In fact a spare battery for the laptop and the phone would be most useful.

I think you need to email Malcolm regarding this.
I was in Manchester this week and needed to access the Coventry Network to restart some servers. The hotel I was in wanted £15 a day for Internet access so I thought I would try using my Smart Phone. I had noticed before that it had an option for Internet Sharing but not really followed it up. Luckly I had my USB cable with me (it acts as a recharger for the phone when plugged in to my laptop) and so I hooked it up and managed to sit in the sun on the steps of the hotel while connected to the remote desktop. It got me out of a tight and expensive spot. The connection speed on my phone was not that great, not broadband speed but fastest enough that it was workable.

OK so this is playing… Successfully added voice tags. Didn’t know what they are till the more technically-savvy person in my family (Daughter) told me; now I just say “email” and the email menu pops up.
The camera example given in the instructions is a bit superfluous at there’s a camera button there anyway (on the right).
I had more problems finding the Voice Notes. Found it earlier by exploring. The instructions say it’s in Accessories (p75) but it’s in Organiser on my phone. So now I can access voice notes to record, using a vocal command.
