Gemma Tombs is researching this theme for her PhD under the supervision of Professor Maggi Savin-Baden and Dr Frances Deepwell.

This theme will cover the following sub-themes:

• What and how are decisions made when designing the environments?
• What is the inter relationship between the technology and the pedagogy?
• In what ways is technology helped or hindered the pedagogical design?
• Are there particular pedagogical types or models being used?
• In what ways are virtual world design guiding pedagogical design in ways not yet understood?
• What are the catalysts that hinder student learning and pedagogical design in immersive worlds (such as threshold concepts)?
• How is embodiment and portrayal used or ignored in the learning process?
