My ideas for a slice of Havana, sorry about the pun.

Coventry University Blogging Academics.

Each academic could apply for a slice of CUBA, when they register they are asked what categories they think their blog should come under.  They can always go back and edit this at a later time.  When they log into CUBA they are presented with a WordPress pretty much like this one.   There would be a selection of widgets to add to their side bars, including:

  • My CUOnline page (as demonstrated here)
  • SSO to pebblePAD
  • SSO to CMeOnline
  • SSO to Web conferences
  • SSO to a Wiki

They would have the ability to add users to their blogs, these users could have any of the roles that WordPress allow.  This would mean that students could be added to help maintain Posts or pages.  The users can also be added to groups that can be granted read/write access to pages.

CUBA would be made out of two parts, the main land or the front door, which offers the chance to view recent posts/news from the main CUBA islands.  These could be organised in channels such as Category, Tag Cloud or person and could also include feeds from overseas (external) sources.

The CUBA Islands are made up of the individual academics’s WordPress instances which would all be accessible directly.  Green Cards would be issued by ITS passport control, otherwise known as Active Directory.

Why would people want to move to CUBA, it gives a freedom to blog and easily publish web pages.  It could be used with research students.

The concept came from looking how WordPress.com is organised, but takes the idea over into the realm of the academic and combines the teaching and easy access to the University’s e-learning environment.

Well……would you move to CUBA?
