eMRSG: East Midlands Research Support Group

About

The East Midlands Research Support Group (EMRSG) is a consortium of university libraries based in and around the East Midlands which has worked on a collaborative project to create a re-purposable online tutorial to develop the information handling skills of research staff.

This two year project has the following partners: Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham, De Montfort University and Coventry University, with the involvement of the universities of Leicester, Northampton and Warwick in phase one of the project. Funding has been provided by all partners. 

The project consists of a number of phases

Phase One: Evaluation of the current tools on offer to develop information handling skills of researchers;

Phase Two: Investigation of the information needs and learning preferences of research staff;

Phase Three. Design and development of the module;

Phase Four: The evaluation and dissemination period.

The group has completed the online units for a module titled: ‘Dissemination of your research’ which comprises:

  • Journals and journal articles
  • Other forms of publishing
  • Journal bibliometrics
  • Author bibliometrics
  • Networking

The following members of the group: (Coventry, De Montfort and Nottingham) has just started work on the next module which will look at bibliographic/reference management software.
