Questionnaire design completed

Christine Broughan and Katie Hartless consulted and pulled together ideas for the questionnaire.  The questionnaire is to get information about our current cohort of students regarding their ownership of computers and use of printers, practices around ICT, use of devices that use energy, heating and lighting usage, attitudes to energy use, barriers to energy saving, and likely responses to incentives/disincentives.

Just waiting for Ethics Committee approval so we can start getting responses.

We are going to have a draw with prizes (iTunes music vouchers) which respondents will be entered into if they complete the survey in the first week.

Plans and Workpackages submitted to JISC

Submitted our detailed plans and work packages to JISC on Monday 21 March.  Because there are six different areas of the University involved (Estates, Student Services, Students Union, IT Services, Serious Games Institute and Faculty of Engineering and Computing) it was a lot of work to draw ideas together and to work this up into a plan.  We started with a brain storming session, but because of the timescale and everyone being such busy people, we produced a template for Team Leaders to complete.  I then took these and built a Gantt chart using Microsoft Project. We then met and went through the Gantt chart, which resulted in a few changes.  Not everyone was able to attend the meeting to review the Gantt chart, so where possible I went through it with Team Leaders separately.

The Work Package template was quite good in terms of pulling together details for completing JISCS’s Project Plan template.  It wasn’t difficult, but quite laborious, taking details from the Gantt chart and putting them into JISC’s Work Packages template.  It was a little confusing deciding how to deal with Work Packages which run across two years.

Still, all in all, I’m feeling pleased that we got it done and submitted to schedule.  Thanks to all who assisted.

Identifying and implementing ways of reducing the carbon footprint across a range of Coventry University student accommodation

The CUSTOMER Project aims to develop and trial a range of interventions that will lead to a reduced carbon footprint in Coventry University student accommodation.  It is a JISC funded project and part of the JISC Greening ICT Programme.  As such, the project also aims to provide good practice guidance for the sector on energy usage and energy reduction in student accommodation. The project starts in February 2011 and will end in July 2012.

The project team will endeavour to keep this blog up to date with progress and lessons learned as we go along.
