Sharing learning objects in healthcare special interest group (SLOHSIG) will be holding its first meeting here at CIPeL on Monday 5th October 2009. Agenda to be confirmed soon.
The strategic aim of the special interest group (SIG) is to intergrate the vast number of teaching resources online into a ‘one stop shop’ for teachers and students of healthcare.
The SIG is primarily focused on the use and reuse of teaching and learning materials (learning objects) and it’s areas of interest will include:
development of learning objects for healthcare education
embedding learning objects in teaching practice
e-learning pedagogy
the use of digital repositories of learning objects
building communities of practice
facilitating content sharing

e-Learning in health: working together to enhance health, HEA Conference, University of Warwick, 16th -17th July.
CIPeL attended this event and presented a number of learning objects around health, interprofessional working and professional development. CIPeL learning objects may be used by health and social care lecturers to enhance teaching and learning in health and social care in Further and Higher Education. Participants were encouraged to access the Learning Object catalogue for ideas and inspiration.
The conference was well attended with Key notes by Professor David Dewhurst, (Director of Educational Information Services), Sir Alan Langlands (Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England) and Alan Ryan (National Programme Director, e-learning for Healthcare).
Poster Presentations - Poster prizes were sponsored by CIPeL.

At the core team meeting held on 19th May 2009, the CIPeL team commenced work on the structure and content for the CIPeL final report. The CIPeL team built upon the Input:Output model developed at the previous team meeting. Further time was invested into refining themes and identification of small sub-groups to develop content for the report. It was also decided to adopt an e-approach to the development of the final report. A wiki has been created for core team staff to contribute to the writing of the report. Core team staff can link to the wiki from this web site by using the blog roll on the left hand side of this page.

On Tuesday 20th January 2009 the CIPeL advisory and special interest group met at Coventry University. The purpose of the meeting was to showcase and debate some of the theory emerging from CIPeL’s work. Four exciting themes were presented, these were:
“Actual intended and user-augmented use of learning objects. Involving the community” Chris Pegler
“What makes a learning object interprofessional?” Elinor Clarke
“A discourse analysis of online interprofessional learning in the context of a module on inequalities in social care and health” Dr Lynn Clouder.
“What’s wrong with interprofessional learning?” Dr. Frances Gordon

Web 2.0 technologies supporting health and life sciences at Coventry University
On Friday 21st November 2008, the CIPel was represented by Elinor Clarke at the HEA/UWE e-learning SIG E-learning in health and social care - current practice and directions conference. Elinor showcased a number of learning objects as well as reporting on the pilot study “IPE in Second Life”. Please see attached a copy of the presentation.

The Cipel (CETL) hosted a creative workshop on 16th September 2008 to consider our definitions of Interprofessionality. Following a demonstration by Andi Brookes (CIPeL Learning Technologist) of “crazy talk”, “sketchup”, “comic life”, “antics” and “facegen” the CIPeL team got to work to produce a number of definitions of Interprofessionality. Once individuals had written their paragraphs on what Interprofessionality is we then set about being creative. Following a photo shoot, audio recordings and suggested scenarios the CIPeL team went on to produce learning objects to illustrating their definitions of “Interprofessionality”. The CIPeL team can post comments below regarding their definitions and Learning Objects.
