Projects 2008-9

“Done” list for Academic Year 2008-9

Done August 2009

Blackboard Induction Student guide and additional Moodle guide - combined, written and tested - have gone to be printed.

Done July 2009

Added items to the Moodledoo blog.

Done June

All 3 posters have been presented at ELATE - beautifully crafted by pbz1912.com.
Blackboard Induction Student guide - first draft done. Gone to Flying Squad for checking.

Done May

Completed one of the 3 ELATE posters (the easiest one at it’s a plain format and the text was easy to work out.)

Created a blog to complement the Moodle ELATE poster.

Clarified Naked with an initial blog for new navigants.

Added to Naked: how to add a caption/alt text to an image in a Word document, including which is more appropriate, an introduction to long descriptions and deciding on the text to use for alt text. Links to a resource that was made using Wimba Create.

Done Apr

Proposed some posters for ELATE.

Sorted out how to embed a video into Moodle. Not difficult. Just grab the code in youtube and put it into somewhere that uses html. Used a youtube video, but think that it could be done by others.

Added to Naked… how to mark up languages in a Word document

Had a problem with sound on my computer and have downloaded a more recent (and faster) sound driver.

Simplified the Naked Lecturer to include Basics and fewer links in the left column.

The special April 1st entry in Naked by Prof O’Nicks. Despite its posted date, it did have a very serious message running through it. In particular, looking at Coventry University’s Core Value: “seek to use IT appropriately”. The purpose was for people to be made aware of the Naked Lecturer blog and to interact with the resource.

Done Mar

Handouts to compliment the Styles trilogy. The transcript suffices for the first one. A bookmark for Styles in Seconds and for Sorting Out Styles an illustrated list of steps and a suggestion to look as the video! They are directly linked in the Styles Trilogy.

The Teaching Disabled Students guides have been printed, so the print versions have been uploaded to Curve and made available via naked.

Added items to my naked blog related to the Law and other background information. Tried to keep it clean and simple - removed superfluous tags and pages. The information’s there but off-page if it’s not right in the blog’s brief.

Adding pages to Moodle, reported here, complete with images and comparison with the BB Learning Module.

Investigated Moodle Home Page options

Done Feb

Released Styles in Seconds on Groundhog Day!

Started to look at Moodle. Report so far in the e-learning Developers’ blog.

Done the last of the Styles trilogy, entitled Sorting Out Styles. Put it into Curve.

Found some basic references to do with the Law and accessibility. To edit and add to naked.

Done Jan

Added an article to the naked blog about making Braille-friendly lecture notes. (Might split it up as it’s a bit long.)
Got a username, password etc for Cuddle

Uploaded to Curve a basic set of guidelines for making lecture notes more accessible. Designed (sticky notes!) by pbz1912 alias Laura. An effective way of showing that things don’t have to be boring to be accessible.

It links back to the naked and CUOnline Support blogs.

Uploaded “Where’s Heading 2” which was built using Raptivity and was created to guide people round the new subtleties of styles in Word 2007.

Done Dec

Disabilities guides ready for the design people, apart from some text for the folder that they’ll be in and the outquotes
Uploaded the basic text versions to Curve (University login needed).

Done Nov

Prepared SoftChalk Demo for Friday’s Seminar
Wrote up the CUOnline Support pages
Abridged the Disabilities guides - written draft which I’ve sent to a colleague to look at -returned and given to DES meeting. Sent to LC for forwarding to student group.

Done Oct

Curve - key words - another podvideo.

Used SoftChalk to create a learning object - CUOnline VLE module tuneup (now in Curve, username and password needed), containing an image hotspot quiz, self test questions and an embedded movie that was created using Adobe Captivate.

Curve Trilogy

Moved from the streaming server and reformatted so that they are viewable in more places, the trilogy Why Use Curve?, followed by Where’s My Stuff? and What’s the Metadata? are now in Curve. Still single take, warts and all! (Curve username and password needed.)
